The Tin Hearts

The Tin Hearts are a five piston electric blues and Americana machine. They play music like it used to be played.  The jangle of electric guitars, bass, keys and drums rattle your innards and make your head spin.  Known for their live performances, The Tin Hearts' self-titled freshman effort illustrates a restraint and emphasis on songwriting that touches the listener while their second album clearly captures the energy of the live act.

Their first release The Tin Hearts is available on Singing Moon Records for digital download and their critically acclaimed release No Good Deed is available digitally and in hard copy. T-Shirts and other merchandise are available here.

Reactions to the bands album and performances:

“..songs reminiscent of a new age Bob Dylan….the wailing sound of electric guitar and Sullivan’s gravely tones which immediately transported the scene to a Memphis bar..”
-Lauren Tool -The Kenyon Collegian-9.30.10

"The Tin Hearts were certainly made for bars. The Hendrix/SRV guitar licks are numerous and nasty. The rhythms stomp and sway with tipsy precision. Even at its most somber, the piano sounds straight out of the saloon....You can smell the whiskey on this band’s breath through your speakers while listening to sophomore offering “No Good Deed.”... a mostly no-nonsense rock record that will sit well with old-school devotees"
-Chris Deville; Columbus Alive; Columbus Ohio

"The new album, No Good Deed, avoids the sophomore slump by stretching the band both musically and lyrically. It’s a bolder, more cocksure beast than the previous release, showing that the band is unafraid to take chances. The closer is.. “Been a Good Year,” which sees the normally more demure Tin Hearts brave their way into the Drive-By Truckers’ meaty Southern boogie territory. The Tin Hearts are quickly becoming one of this town’s country-rock gems."
-Rick Allen; The Other paper, Columbus Ohio

"I count My Morning Jacket, The Felice Brothers and Wilco as guideposts for my fervor. Mix in some Blitzen Trapper, Band of Horses, Hayes Carll and some Ryan Adams and you have a well-rounded playlist of modern Americana. It is time to add another to the list. The Tin Hearts, based out of Columbus, Ohio, is a welcome addition to the club. ..The tight, five-piece band plays honest, hard-working music that will keep the honky tonk lights burning until dawn. However, it is Matthew Sullivan's gritty vocals and harmonica work that make the band stand out. Like the aforementioned bands, The Tin Hearts possess a rollicking honesty that will take them far. "

Columbus’ The Tin Hearts put on a really good show. The laid back bluesy tunes sit alongside groups like “The Band,” and you can tell Tin Hearts’ lead singer Matthew Sullivan is influenced by Levon and the boys. I was especially impressed with the way that The Tin Hearts’ bassist and guitarist listened to each other on solos and really complimented the other’s playing. All in all, the Tin Hearts are a local band that you have no excuse to ignore.

Forged in the fires of rhythm, rock, blues and soul, the Tin Hearts' tight, gritty electric sting and haunting organ melodies harken back to a time when the living and drinking were hard, but the music kept 'em coming back for more.

Live audience response to this four-piece incarnation is spooky-strong – somewhere out in front of the tight percussion, baleful keyboards, guitar wail and carny vocals, this band awakens dancing ghosts who will cut the rug from under your feet.

The fertile soil of Central Ohio has breathed life into more than corn and soybeans… (a) sound that combines the traditions of Appalachian folk, twangy country and meaty rock ’n’ roll... A welcome newcomer is The Tin Hearts, which plays a loose, noisy racket of down-home goodness.

The Tin Hearts show a great deal of promise, fitting in nicely with the more rambunctious Bloodshot Records crowd as well as the sweeter, softer, Gillian Welch side of modern country.
-Rick Allen, The Other paper; Columbus, OH

{The Tin Hearts are} a uniquely informed country sound that is as deeply traditional as it is strikingly innovative.
